Match Summary

Bangladesh must be so heartbroken with this result. After doing most things right for the majority of the match and even scoring a massive 595 in the first innings, they've blown it up on the final day. But that's what Test cricket is about. The dynamic of batting for survival on the fifth day exerts a kind of pressure which is like nothing else. Bangladesh tried to counter it by staying positive, even overtly positive, and it backfired. Take nothing away from New Zealand's bowlers who bowled with a lot of fire and aggression to shake things up. There were also unfortunate injuries to Imrul Kayes and Mushfiqur Rahim which made things a lot harder. Once they were bowled out leaving New Zealand with 217 to chase, the dejection was too overwhelming to overcome.
