Sydney Sixers beat Sydney Thunder by 8 wickets

MOM: Chris Green

  • That is it from Super Saturday! Just to give a recap, the Scorchers won the top of the table clash with the Strikers earlier while a few minutes ago, the Sixers have managed to snap their losing streak, winning the Derby. Big Bash takes a break on Sunday and why? Because national cricket takes priority as Australia and England resume their battle, this time in the ODI format at the MCG. The BBL action resumes on Monday evening, the 15th of January, 2018, with Hobart Hurricanes hosting the Brisbane Heat. See you then! Adios! Take Care!
  • Chris Green has been awarded the Man Of The Match and rightly so. First, his 49 from 27 gave the Thunder a chance and then he bowled two superb overs at the death, unfortunately not being able to take his side home. In a close match, you either have too many contenders for the Man Of The Match award or none. Tonight it was more of the latter with Green standing out.
  • You might be getting a good feeling after reading everything that has been written so far but just imagine - had one edge of Green gone to hand when he was batting, the Thunder would not have crossed 130. The Sixers bowled really well on a pitch which had something for the bowlers and unlike the Thunder, everyone bowled reasonably well.
  • The Thunder tried their level best to win, thanks to some choking from the Sixers. Having said that, nothing can be taken away from the Thunder spinners. The trio of Chris Green, Fawad Ahmed and Arjun Nair had collective figures of 12-0-70-2 which shows how ineffective the seamers were on this track. McClenaghan and Sandhu had off days and even if one of them had shone, well, the Thunder might still have been alive.
  • A good match which had all the ingredients. The Sixers got off to a flier but then the spinners brought it back for the Thunder. To be honest, it was self-induced pressure as the hosts looked clueless against spin. One good thing for them was Daniel Hughes carried his bat through. Joe Denly set up the chase and then Maddinson just batted through with Hughes, albeit a bit slower than he would have liked. Not much fuss, but a more confident team would have won with an over to spare after such a dominant start and losing just 2 wickets.
  • A win is a win, no matter what. It might well be a consolation one but at least the Sixers won't end this tournament winless. With this victory, they have taken Thunder also out of the tournament, which means both the Sydney teams have been knocked out.
  • 19.6CGreen to MHenriques

THE SIXERS HAVE WON! Boy, what a roar envelops the SCG! Sydney Sixers have finally got themselves on the board this season, albeit very, very late. Henriques comes down the track, takes the ball on the full and whips it through wide long on. It is Gurinder Sandhu over there and he ain't the quickest. Two runs taken with ease! Victory on the final ball, by 8 wickets!
  • 19.5CGreen to DHughes

The batsman dances down the track. One run added to the total. 2 needed off the final ball!
  • 19.4CGreen to MHenriques

Works this towards mid-wicket, taking it on the full, Shane Watson gets across to his left, takes an age to release the ball and then throws it very slowly to the bowler and by that time Henriques gets in.
  • 19.3CGreen to DHughes

Full and outside off, driven past the bowler towards mid off for a run.
  • 19.2CGreen to DHughes

Short and outside off, cut through point for a brace again. 5 needed from 4 now!

  • 18.6MMcClenaghan to MHenriques

Chips this over mid on and hares back for the second. McClenaghan gets a good throw from the deep but he is a second late in chipping the bails and that allows Hughes to get in.

  • 18.1MMcClenaghan to MHenriques

FOUR! Again a boundary on the first ball of the over! Slower ball, full and wide outside off, Henriques gets across, reaches out and lofts it with finesse over cover for a boundary!

  • 16.4ANair to MHenriques

Full and outside off, Henriques looks to go inside out and gets a thick outside edge past slip to third man for a couple.
  • Maddinson is now giving an interview on the sidelines. Admits that since they have already been knocked out, the Sixers did not have anything to lose. On his inspirational haircut, he just laughs it off and hopes that it changes the fortune for his team.
  • 16.3ANair to MHenriques

Outside off, dabbed straight to short third man.
  • 16.2ANair to DHughes

The batsman gets a bottom edge of the bat on that one. One run added to the total.
  • Moises Henriques comes in.
  • 16.1ANair to NicMaddinson

OUT! There goes Maddinson! Is it too late for the visiting side though? Tossed up wide outside off, Maddinson comes down the track and has a wild slash, getting a top edge which is nicely taken by Ben Rohrer at short third man.
  • Arjun Nair to bowl out.

  • Shane Watson is back on.
  • 14.6CGreen to NicMaddinson

Full and darted down the leg side, Nic misses out, getting hit on the pad.
  • 14.5CGreen to NicMaddinson

Full and outside off, this time NM comes down the track and drives it through the covers. Once again McClenaghan runs hard to his right and dives to prevent the boundary. Two runs taken.
  • 14.4CGreen to NicMaddinson

One again, he is ages early in telegraphing his intentions to go inside out and Green spots that. Bowls it outside leg and cramps him for room. Nic can only push it to cover. Hat-trick of dots.
