Sydney Sixers beat Adelaide Strikers by 6 wickets

MOM: Joe Denly

  • That is it from Game 22 then. The second week of the new year will be inaugurated by Melbourne Renegades and the Hobart Hurricanes at the Docklands Stadium. The talks are all around Aaron Finch playing his first game of the BBL this season. And he is up against a side which is yet to lose so far. Join us for more of such information at 7.15 pm local (0815 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • JOE DENLY HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH for his unbeaten 60-ball 76. The Sixers have now moved to second spot in the points table, with 4 wins out of 7. The Strikers drop down from third to fourth.
  • The Strikers were not too great with the ball. Cannot say that the pitch did not have anything for the bowlers but their usually clinical bowling did not step up tonight. Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle were the only ones who did well and they almost brought the Strikers back into the game in the middle overs - but the moment one of them went off the attack, the rest were hammered. Got to feel for Liam O'Connor - first 3 overs went for 19 while the 4th alone went for 18.
  • So far, in this tournament, Joe Denly has not been at his best. He is a very key component of their setup, having been consistent last season with the bat and then taking a wicket or 2 with the ball, along with being economical. Tonight was the stage for him. There was a different air of confidence about the Englishman. While the other batsmen kept losing wickets, Denly held one end up and scored exactly half the team's total. He had decent partnerships with Hughes and Henriques and then towards the end, catapulted the chase, thanks to a cameo of 15-ball 30 from Josh Philippe.
  • Comfortable and well-deserved win for the Sixers. Normally, it is a Jordan Silk or a Moises Henriques taking them to the finish line but tonight it was someone different. Someone from the top who took responsibility on his shoulders to see the team through.

Wonderful running and game awareness. Full and around middle, Joe pushes it towards long on with soft hands. The fielder comes charging in but Rashid too realizes that he has a lot of distance to cover. Himself runs after it, gets to the ball and then returns the throw quickly at the bowler's end. But an unfazed Denly charges back for the second.

OUT! Edged and gone! This is a big, big wicket for the Strikers. Who else other than Rashid Khan to provide the breakthrough? Loopy leg break around off, some pace on it too, it turns away and takes the outside edge of Silk's bat. Short at first slip takes a good catch.
