  • So that is it from this game! The Heat bag their second win of the season, whereas, the Thunder lose their second in a row. Big Bash now continues as Melbourne Stars take on Perth Scorchers at the MCG on the 9th of January at 0715 local (0815 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
  • Chris Lynn is the Man of the Match for his smashing knock of 54 from 30 balls.
  • Earlier in the day, the Heat were asked to bat first and their top order came to the fore. First McCullum and Bryant provided an excellent start, then the Bash brothers did what they do the best, bashed the bowlers. Both scored 50s and 200 looked on the cards but a big collapse saw them fall 14 runs short. it was still an above par score and it proved to be enough in the end. Although, if the match would have gone the distance, it could have been a different story but the Heat were always in control.
  • So just the 33 balls is what we had in the second innings and those 33 were also dominated by Heat. They had set a massive target of 187 and in reply, the hosts got off to the worst of starts. They lost Buttler in the second over itself. Callum Ferguson then joined Watson. The former was looking good before he fell prey to Doggett. Joe Root then joined Watson and just as the latter hit one out of the ground, the rain started coming down and then never stopped.
  • 10.15 pm local (1115 GMT) update - So the inevitable has happened, the game HAS BEEN CALLED OFF! The Heat win their second game of this year's Big Bash courtesy the DLS Method, they have emerged victorious by 15 runs.
  • 10 pm local (1100 GMT) update - Nothing much to report. The forecast is not looking too great either. Fingers crossed. We are starting to lose an over every four minutes now.
  • It has started to pour in the middle! The heavens have opened up. Seems like a passing shower though, but we are in for a delay.
  • 5.3UrRahman to ShaneWatson

SIX! That is out of here, literally out of here! 110 meter biggie. WOW! He has truly picked the bones out of the that one. It is short and on middle, Watson loves it there. He goes back quickly and pulls it over the mid-wicket fence, over the roof I should write, for a maximum.
  • 5.2UrRahman to ShaneWatson

On the stumps, Watson works it towards mid-wicket. 2 dots to begin the last over of the Powerplay.
  • 5.1UrRahman to ShaneWatson

Flatter and around off, Watson guides it to point.
  • Joe Root, another man playing his final BBL knock this season, comes in at number 4, replacing Ferguson.
  • 4.6BDoggett to CFerguson

OUT! Caught! Soft dismissal! Another wicket for the Heat. A length ball outside off, Ferguson looks to punch it through the covers but finds Max Bryant in the circle! 2 wickets in the Powerplay and the Heat are well on top. 159 more needed from 90 balls.
  • 4.5BDoggett to CallumFerguson

FOUR! That has gone like a rocket! On a length around middle, Ferguson just whips it in front of square and the ball races away!

  • 3.4JPattinson to SWatson

A length ball around off, the skipper gets down on a knee and sweep-pulls it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 3.3JPattinson to SWatson

Full and outside off, Watson drives this uppishly and almost finds cover. The ball drops in front of the fielder and escapes him, going through. Two runs taken. 169 more needed from 99 balls.
  • 3.2JPattinson to CFerguson

On middle and leg, worked through square leg for a single.
  • 3.1JPattinson to CFerguson

A length ball around off, cutting back in, Ferguson misses his tuck and is hit on the pads. Another LBW appeal comes up, again height is the question.

Full and outside off, driven straight to cover. What a start from Patto - just a run and a wicket from his opening over.
  • 1.5JPattinson to SWatson

Full and around off, driven down the ground. Pattinson gets a hand to it and takes some pace off. Deflects it towards mid off.
  • 1.4JPattinson to CFerguson

A short ball outside off, Ferguson rises with the bounce and dabs it behind point for a single.
  • Callum Ferguson walks in at number 3, replacing Buttler.
  • 1.3JPattinson to JosButtler

OUT! LBW! Heat get the big fish early! Buttler departs cheaply in his last knock of the season in Big Bash. On a length and fast, around off, nipping back in, Jos is done in by the pace and misses his flick. Is hit on the back pad and Pattinson appeals. The umpire slowly raises the dreaded finger. Big blow.

  • 0.2UrRahman to JosButtler

Around middle, worked to the leg side.
  • 0.1UrRahman to JosButtler

FOUR! Poor ball and then poorer effort from James Pattinson. Down the leg side, Buttler tickles it fine. Pattinson hubnts it down from short fine leg. Slides, pushes the ball back but then while doing so, the ball rolls back in. James tries to return the throw but he has pushed the rope away and the ball is in that position where the rope was initially.
  • The players are out in the middle. Jos Buttler and Shane Watson are the openers for Sydney. Mujeeb Ur Rahman will start off with the new ball, against Buttler. Here we go...
