Another night gone by in the Indian T20 League, another nail-biting encounter as well! Surely, by the end of this tournament, a few of us are going to end up having high blood pressure. Nevertheless, the tournament continues to roll on in its merry way and we head to the eastern part of the country for the game on Friday! Kolkata host Delhi and that one will begin at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Join us for that. Till then, goodbye from us. Take care and cheers!
Chennai captain and Man of the Match, MS Dhoni, (On him being animated towards the end) has a laugh and asks whether Murali Kartik is asking about the last tense over or him going on the field and having a talk with the umpires (Regarding the no ball fiasco). Mentions that credit should be given to Rajasthan for putting pressure on his side with the ball. Emphasizes that it's important to identify the regular mistakes and rectify them as quickly as possible. States that the ball was coming nicely onto the bat, so there was pressure on the bowler along with the batsman. Adds that individuals commit mistakes (Referring to Shardul Thakur), but it's the team's job to bail them out and that's the most important thing as a group. Says that they have very good support everywhere, and that he has played one of his best knocks at this venue, so is happy for the turnout of the Chennai supporters. Feels that it was a good thing that his main bowlers did well first up as it gave him the chance to test his other bowlers and ends by saying that the other players in the squad will get a chance as well.
Ambati Rayudu is also caught for a chat. He says that the wicket was on the slower side but is happy he was able to score some runs and get into the groove of things. Reckons that him and Dhoni are experienced players and they always felt they could get the job done. Feels that there's no pressure on him at all and it's all about what happens on the day. Stresses that no matter the situation, they always felt they could do it as there's a lot of experience in the side which helps. On Ravindra Jadeja, Rayudu mentions that he's doing well with the ball and contributed with the bat tonight as well. Ends by saying that he's just happy to do well and help the team win the game.
Rajasthan captain, Ajinkya Rahane, says that he wouldn't have done anything differently. Mentions that 151 was a low total as they should have had at least 20 runs more. Adds that he still feels disappointed having conceded 18 runs in the final over. States that they did well in the field, but there are plenty of areas to improve. Continues saying that the team changes happen based on the conditions and the opponents. Feels that captaincy is a different challenge and he is relishing it.
Coming to the hosts' bowling, there was a standout performer in Jofra Archer. Dhawal Kulkarni bowled well upfront but the rest of the bowlers came under pressure and suffered while the Rayudu-Dhoni duo was out in the middle. Stokes especially bowled a no ball and a wide in the last over and almost another no ball, which he was lucky to get away with. He failed to defend the 17 runs in the bank for the final over and Rajasthan continue to remain with just a single win. Earlier in the evening, a disciplined bowling performance saw Chennai restricting Rajasthan to 151, though it could have been much lesser if not for some lusty blows in the last over of Shardul Thakur. That though did not prove to be enough in the end as a captain's knock from Dhoni and the finishing touch by Santner saw the Men in Yellow post their sixth win this year as well as pile the misery on tonight's home side. Stay tuned for the presentation...
Starting the chase, Chennai were in dire straits as they were at 24/4 at one stage. The home side's bowlers and the fielders were on fire, putting the visitors under the pump. Then came a magnificent and match-resurrecting stand of 95 runs between MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu. Both of them got to their half centuries and ensured that their side was still in the game as it neared the close. Even as Rayudu fell, Dhoni continued finding the boundaries and departed in the last over with 8 needed off 3 balls. That was when Santner walked in and turned hero!
Unbelievable scenes here at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur! Mitchell Santner, you beauty! He has come into the team and taken it across the line when he was given the opportunity. That is the might of this side, someone or the other always ends up putting their hand up and taking Chennai to victory! That is also MS Dhoni's 100th win as a skipper in the Indian T20 League!
19.8BenStokes to MSantner
SIX! And Santner finishes it off in style! What a stunning victory. Stunning. Chahar rushes out in ecstasy to celebrate with his mates. Incredible scenes out there in the middle. Santner gets this full ball in his arc and he lofts it high and handsome over the long on fence for a biggie. CHENNAI WIN BY 4 WICKETS!
19.7BenStokes to MSantner
Wide! Are we in for a Super Over? Can it be? Can it really be? Stokes fires it well outside off, Santner reaches out to play but it goes from the other side of the tramline. Wide signalled.
19.6BenStokes to MSantner
Fuller length ball on off stump, Santner lofts it down to long on for a couple of runs. 4 needed off the final ball. What will happen?
19.5BenStokes to MSantner
No ball! Or is it? The umpire signals it, but then the square leg umpire says that isn't the case. The batsmen take two as Santner mistimes the pull off the high full toss towards wide long on. I'm seeing this for the first time here. Dhoni, from the dugout, has come out in the middle to talk to the umpires. In the end, the no ball isn't given. A double is taken.
Mitchell Santner walks out to bat with 8 runs needed off 3 balls.
19.4BenStokes to MSDhoni
OUT! When the time's come to step up, Ben Stokes isn't one to shy away. What a comeback delivery. Inch perfect. Couldn't be any more perfect and he needed that as there's no margin for error against someone like Dhoni. The Englishman comes charging in and fires in the yorker on middle, Dhoni makes room to smash this but can't do anything about it as the stumps are rattled.
19.3BenStokes to MSDhoni
Takes the pace off this one as he bowls it on a back of a length, Dhoni slaps it down to long on and despite his struggle to run, he completes two runs. 8 needed off 4 now.
19.2BenStokes to RJadeja
No ball! That's a Free Hit! Not looking good for Rajasthan here. Stokes oversteps as he bowls a back of a length ball well outside off, Jadeja slaps it to sweeper cover and gets to the other end.
19.1BenStokes to RJadeja
SIX! That's a ridiculous shot. What power from 'Sir' Jadeja. Stokes is stunned, we're stunned! Spectacular. Full and wide outside off, Jadeja reaches out, throws his bat wildly at it and falls over to the ground as he hammers it down the ground. It clears the fence and that's a maximum.
Ben Stokes to bowl the final over of the game. He has 17 runs to defend.
18.6JArcher to MSDhoni
FOUR! Lucky runs, but Chennai will need all they can get. Nothing wrong with the delivery, it's right in the blockhole, on leg. Dhoni looks to slog but it goes off the inside edge and across the fine leg fence.
Dhoni is down on his haunches. Really being pushed fitness-wise, and the heat isn't doing him any favours. Slight halt in play as the physio comes out to stretch him out a bit and he'll use this chance to get some fluids in too. So will the other players on the pitch.
18.5JArcher to MSDhoni
Add two more to the total. This is really testing Dhoni's fitness. Slower short ball outside off, the Chennai captain hits it through covers. Big gap out there, so he rushes back again to complete the second.
18.4JArcher to MSDhoni
Another two. Fifty up for MS Dhoni, his 22nd in the Indian T20 League. This length ball is punched through point and the batsmen come back for the second.
18.3JArcher to MSDhoni
Dhoni will feel he's missed out. High full toss on the pads from over the wicket, the batter works it through backward square leg. Runs the first one hard and comes back for the second.
18.2JArcher to RJadeja
Switches to around the wicket for Jadeja and angles it in on leg. The left-hander tries to flick it fine but it goes off his pads and falls on the leg side. A leg bye is pinched.
18.1JArcher to MSDhoni
Fuller in length and slower in pace, Dhoni comes half forward and pushes it square on the off side. The batsmen take a quick run.
17.7BenStokes to RJadeja
The slower one, quite full in length and on middle stump. Jadeja drills it down the ground as Unadkat at long on moves to his right and cuts it off. Two runs taken. Terrific over from Ben Stokes. Conceded just 9 and gets the prized wicket of Rayudu as well.
17.6BenStokes to MSDhoni
Full delivery aiming the base of off stump, Dhoni pushes it to covers and takes a single.
Ravindra Jadeja walks out to bat at number 7.
17.5BenStokes to ARayudu
OUT! Ben Stokes with the breakthrough. Makes sure that the 95-run stand comes to a close at the most crucial of times. Cleverly disguises the slower one as he bowls it on a back of a length. Rayudu backs away and pulls it high over mid-wicket. Gopal out in the deep runs back and takes a sliding catch as the ball comes above his shoulder. Superb. Stokes applauds that. Could be the moment that wins Rajasthan the game. Chennai still need 33 runs in 14 balls.
17.4BenStokes to MSDhoni
Hits the deck hard, bangs it in short. Dhoni pulls it with control to deep mid-wicket and crosses over.
17.3BenStokes to MSDhoni
Wide! Goes for the yorker but ends up spilling it down the leg side, the umpire signals wide.
17.2BenStokes to MSDhoni
FOUR! Much-needed for Dhoni and Chennai. Short ball into the body, the Chennai skipper swivels inside his crease and pulls it aerially through backward square leg for a boundary.
17.1BenStokes to MSDhoni
Dot ball to begin things. Stokes bowls it just ahead of a length, on middle and off, MSD plays it back to the bowler.
Ben Stokes to bowl now. He has figures of 1-0-9-0 so far.
16.6JArcher to MSDhoni
Really full outside off, kept out towards cover by Dhoni calmly for a single. Just 7 runs off this over, an excellent over at this stage! The pressure is back on Chennai with the equation 39 off 18 balls.
16.5JArcher to ARayudu
Dabbed towards the right of short third man for a single by Rayudu to this ball on a length outside off.
16.4JArcher to MSDhoni
Ouch! That pings off the helmet! A bouncer on middle, Dhoni did not expect that and before he could react, gets hit on the helmet. The ball lobs towards the keeper and a leg bye is taken. No reaction of any pain from MS though, as calm as ever.
16.3JArcher to ARayudu
Another full one aimed at the toes of the batsman, it is driven back along the ground to long on by AR.
16.2JArcher to ARayudu
Excellent ball! In the blockhole and aimed at the base of the batsman, Rayudu misses the ball as he tries to flick and gets hit on the toe. The ball runs fine to the right of the keeper as he was wrong-footed. A couple of leg byes taken.
16.1JArcher to MSDhoni
On a length outside off, MS Dhoni cuts it away to deep cover for a run.
Jofra Archer is back into the attack.
15.6SGopal to MSDhoni
He finishes brilliantly! Concedes just a single off this one and five off the entire over! 4-0-31-0 are his figures. The equation is now 46 off 24.
15.5SGopal to ARayudu
A zooter from Gopal this time on the pads of Rayudu, he pulls it uppishly towards deep square leg for a single. Just 4 runs off this one so far, how will Gopal finish?
15.4SGopal to MSDhoni
Darted in outside off, taken on the full and driven away to deep cover for a single by the Chennai skipper.
15.3SGopal to ARayudu
Low full toss on middle, Rayudu slogs but fails to connect cleanly. A single is taken towards deep mid-wicket.
15.2SGopal to MSDhoni
Worked off the pads behind square leg for a single by MS.
