'Great commitment,' R Ashwin wins praise for joining Tamil Nadu team for Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-final
Ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had a terrific campaign in the recently-concluded three-match Test series against South Africa. The off-spinner picked up a total of 15 wickets to finish as the highest wicket-taker in the series, playing an instrumental role in helping India clean sweep the visitors 3-0. Indian bowlers produced an excellent combined effort to outclass Faf du Plessis' men and script first-ever whitewash over the Proteas in Tests for the hosts.
Ashwin wasted no time in celebrating the emphatic series win and jetted off to Bengaluru to join his Tamil Nadu teammates immediately after the conclusion of the third Test in Ranchi on Tuesday. Ashwin took to Twitter to post a picture posing with the trophy and announced that he will be playing for Tamil Nadu in their semi-final clash against Gujarat on Wednesday.
"Freedom series done and dusted, off to Bengaluru now for the #VijayHazareTrophy. Stay committed to the course and the course will stay with you," Ashwin tweeted. Twitter lauded the senior spinner for his dedication for the game and wished him luck for the semifinal clash against Gujarat.

Ashwin, who was dropped from the Test series against West Indies in the Carribean, earlier this year, made a strong comeback on his return in whites against South Africa. The off-spinner ran through the Proteas batting line-up in their first innings of the opening Test match in Vizag picking up a seven-wicket haul. He picked up a total of eight wickets in the game.
He followed up his brilliant performance in the first Test with six wickets in the second Test in Pune. Ashwin finished the series with a total of 15 scalps to cement his spot in the Test side. The spinner is currently taking part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-final between Tamil Nadu and Gujarat which is underway at the Just Cricket Academy ground in Bengaluru.
Tamil Nadu had progressed into the semi-final after their quarterfinal game against Punjab was washed due to rain earning them promotion on the basis of more wins in the league stage.
