'What has he done now?' Ganguly responds to question on Shastri
- Relations between Ganguly and Shastri soured back in 2016 during the process of appointing India's coach
- Ganguly was then part of the Cricket Advisory Committee, along with Tendulkar and Laxman, that picked Kumble as coach
- Ganguly is set to officially take over as the new BCCI president at the board's AGM on Oct 23
Returning to his hometown Kolkata recently, after filing his nomination for the post of BCCI president, Ganguly received a hero's welcome and also held a press conference, where he was asked the question on Shastri.
"Have you spoken with Ravi Shastri?" a reporter asked Ganguly. To which, Ganguly replied, saying, “Why? What has he done now?” with a chuckle. The former India captain's response has gone viral and understandably so.
After all, Ganguly and Shastri haven't really seen eye to eye for a while.
Relations between the two soured in 2016 during the India coach appointment process. Shastri had also applied for the post, but the Cricket Advisory Committee, consisting of Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, had picked Anil Kumble.
Shastri had subsequently accused Ganguly of being absent during his interview. Ganguly later had said, "If Shastri thinks I was behind the appointment of Kumble as the coach and not him, then he is living in a fool’s paradise."
Interestingly, Ganguly has also said that he will ask the BCCI selectors about MS Dhoni's future on October 24, when the selectors meet to pick the T20 squad for the upcoming home series vs Bangladesh.
Dhoni has been on sabbatical since India lost their ICC ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand earlier this year.
Ganguly is set to officially take over as the new BCCI president at the board's Annual General Meeting on October 23.
