After registering a thumping win in the series opener over South Africa at home, Virat Kohli-led Team India arrived in Pune for the upcoming second Test of the ongoing three-match rubber which is scheduled to start on Thursday at the famous Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. The hosts have forged 1-0 lead over Faf Du Plessis' men by thrashing the visitors with a comfortable 203 win in Vizag. The hosts also found a solution to their rising opening conundrum with Rohit Sharma successfully auditioning for the vacant top-order position in Visakhapatnam.

Hailed as Hitman in white-ball cricket, Rohit showed his limited-overs prowess in the longest format of the game by smashing a record back to back centuries. By virtue of his twin tons (176 & 127), Rohit also became the first batsman to score consecutive Test centuries in his debut Test as an opener. While the 32-year-old successfully replaced the struggling KL Rahul, the Vizag Test also saw Mayank Agawaral hit a purple patch as he went on to convert his maiden ton into the double century.
