Every domestic tournament is looked upon by youngsters to put their best foot forward and make a lasting impression in front of selectors to feature in the national setup. On the other hand, it serves as a perfect platform for discarded cricketers to prolong their careers with a splendid run in domestic tournaments. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 edition has just begun, and out-of-favour and veteran all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has been hitting the headlines with his sharp fielding skills on display.

On Friday, his younger brother Irfan Pathan shared a video clip of Yusuf's stunning one-handed catch in the final overs of Baroda's tournament-opener versus Goa; which they lost by four wickets. On Saturday, Baroda locked horns with Karnataka and Yusuf once again rose to the occasion with his fielding to take another catch; this time covering a lot more distance and maintaining his balance after timing his dive to perfection.

Irfan shared the video again, from his official Twitter handle and stated, "Kon bola kon bola ??? Another day another brilliance from Lala."

Yusuf displayed his emotions after taking the catch, which titled the momentum in Baroda's favour before they pulled off a 14-run win. Karnataka's Devdutt Padikkal went for the glory shot, off Deepak Hooda, but couldn't clear the boundary rope as Yusuf held onto a sharp catch.

Talking about the clash, skipper Kedar Devdhar's 52 and quickfire knocks from Swapnil Singh, Yusuf (16-ball 23 not out) and Aditya Waghmode propelled the team score to 196 for 4. In reply, Rohan Kadam and skipper Karun Nair led the fight but it wasn't enough as they were restricted for 182 for 9 in 20 overs.

From Baroda's perspective, Lukman Meriwala returned with match-winning figures of 5 for 21 (4) to help his side open their account in the tournament.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be closely monitored by the IPL franchises and Indian selectors with IPL 2020 and next year's World Twenty20 (WT20I) in the pipeline.
