[VIDEO] Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan gear up for 3rd T20I against Quinton de Kock-led South Africa in nets
Gearing up for scripting history by registering their first series triumph over South Africa in the shortest format of the game, Indian opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were involved in a gruelling practice session on the eve of the third T20I in Bengaluru. After taking a decisive lead in three-match opera with the visitors, Kohli and Co. are set to lock horns with the Proteas at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in the third and final T20I on Sunday.
With the series opener turning out to be a no show in Dharamsala, India were eager to draw first blood in the 2nd T20I against South Africa in Mohali. Deepak Chahar and the Indian bowling attack restricted the visitors to a modest 149 in 20 overs, leaving Dhawan and skipper Kohli doing the rest as India chased down the target with 6 balls to spare. While vice-captain Rohit was stopped in his tracks on a meagre score of 12, his partner in crime Dhawan played a perfect second fiddle to Kohli for the second wicket.
With four boundaries and one maximum, the Indian southpaw scored a crucial 40 off 31 balls to help India touch down the paltry score of 149. Skipper Kohli was a star turnout for the hosts and ended up smashing a match-winning knock of 72 runs. Capitalising on Rohit's failure with the willow, Kohli also surpassed his deputy to become the leading run-getter in the shortest format of the game.
India are expected to extend their winning streak to two games in the ongoing series as they have a clear cut chance of wrapping their first series triumph over the Proteas in their den. On Saturday, the official handle of the Indian cricket team on Instagram shared a short video of Dhawan and Rohit working in tandem during an intense net session.
