‘Hoping You Make A Comeback Soon Like A Champ’ – Mushfiqur Rahim Reacts To Shakib Al Hasan’s Two-Year Ban
Bangladesh’s Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan was handed a two-year ban by ICC for failing to report the approaches made by a bookie. The punishment of one year got suspended, hence, Shakib will sit out of the game for one year. He will be eligible to make his comeback on October 29, 2020.
The ban period will see him miss the tour of India, which also includes Bangladesh’s maiden pink-ball Test, IPL, next year’s T20 World Cup and other bilateral series, including Test series which are part of ICC Test championship.
Reacting to Shakib’s ban, former Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim wrote that Shakib would make his comeback like a champ. Here is his post for Shakib –
At one stage, Mushfiqur was also under ACSU’s investigation but he did not get any calls in the last couple of years.
The 32-year-old was replaced by Shakib as Test captain in 2017. Though Shakib could not lead Bangladesh in all Tests thereafter as he missed few matches due to injuries. Mahmudullah led Bangladesh in the longest format in Shakib’s absence but, surprisingly, he has been named as T20I captain.
Shakib, who was the talk of the town for leading players’ protest last week, recently had a fallout with the board for another reason. The Bangladesh Cricket Board was contemplating action against him after he breached his contract by signing with a mobile company.
It remains to be seen if the board now asks for an explanation from the cricketer.
Of late, Shakib had been missing the team’s practice sessions. At first, it looked like it was due to the relation between him and the board. but later, it was reported that he was kept out of sessions on ICC’s insistence.
Earlier in the evening, the apex board announced a two-year ban for Shakib.
