21st ANPSA Dimapur unit sports meet commences
All Nagaland Private School’s Association (ANPSA), Dimapur Unit, commenced its two-day days 21st Annual Sports Meet, on October 30, at Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
A total of 19 schools from Dimapur are participating in the ongoing ANPSA annual sports meet that included various disciplines.
The highlights of the first day included lighting of the sports flame after the Torch Run by last year’s male and female champions. After hoisting the flag followed by march past by contingents, the chief guest Geoffrey Yaden, chief editor Nagaland Post took the salute.
Later addressing the participants, the chief guest lauded ANPSA members for their contributions to society in achieving best academic results every year. He said the excellent results of private schools every year has also shown that there are entrepreneurs in educational fields in Nagaland who have achieved much without depending on government.
On the occasion of annual sports, the chief guest also reminded that with holistic education becoming an important and valuable catchword, the role of sports and academics should go hand in hand for development of a healthy mind and healthy body and vice versa.
He dwelt on the Olympic Motto: Citius, Altius, Fortius to illustrate how sports was not only about a single person winning to be the best but where everybody competed to become better. Yaden spoke on how sports has become a global culture of peace and friendship and has led to new vistas for advancement of sports technology.
He also lamented that Nagaland, even after 50 years of attainment of statehood, was still lagging behind in the field of sports. He expressed the view that as ANPSA had led in academic fields, it could also ponder on whether it can also prove itself by producing notable sportspersons in future by coming up with its sports institute.
Earlier, the programme welcome address was delivered by principal, Pilgrim Higher Secondary School, Bithungo Kikon and invocation prayer offered by Rev. Vilodi Sakhrie.
Hoisting of flag was initiated by the chief guest, and oath taking lead by sports secretary, ANPSA, Dimapur unit, Dr. R Francis.
The last day of the annual games will be continued on October 31.
