3 IPL cricketers who are doing unusual jobs
1. Parvinder Awana – Inspector, Income Tax Department
There was a time in the Indian Premier League where Parvinder Awana was so impressive, many felt he could one day become one of the best T20 bowlers in the world. He was a smart operator, who would use the slower deliveries and full-length blockholes to great effect, thus helping Kings XI Punjab profusely during his time.
His good performances even earned him a senior Indian team call-up. But for various reasons, Parvinder Awana could only represent the Indian side in 2 T20Is and ended up playing 33 IPL games in his career. He last played IPL in 2014 and never got picked in the auction again.
Awana later was given a job through sports quota in the Income Tax department as an inspector. He married Sangeeta Kasana in a private ceremony in Delhi, who works as a sub-inspector with the Delhi Police. The 33-year-old has not formally announced retirement but has been away from the game for a good period of time.
2. Joginder Sharma – DSP, Haryana
The man very famously remembered for his final over in the World T20 2007, Joginder Sharma represented the Chennai Super Kings for five seasons despite his international career falling apart towards the end of the last decade. A horrible road accident that nearly threatened to kill him almost forced retirement on him, but he did fight his way back.
Joginder Sharma, who hailed from Haryana, represented India in just 4 ODIs and 4 T20Is, but managed to leave his mark among the fans. He last represented Chennai Super Kings in the 2011 edition and his contract expired in 2012. He picked up 12 wickets for the only club he represented in IPL in 16 games.
After quitting cricket, Joginder Sharma became the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Haryana and has been serving that post since 2015 and has been living in Hisar with his two kids and wife. Life had many twists and turns to offer for Joginder, but the way he found a way through was truly inspiring.
3. KL Rahul – Assistant Manager, RBI
A name that is still very highly rated and a lot of experts bet on him to become a huge cricketer in the coming years, KL Rahul is currently away from the Indian squad having been sidelined after a stretch of horrendous performances. Despite having a decent World Cup campaign in England, the sacking was inevitable once he failed in West Indies.
Rahul represented various IPL franchises including Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab, but he found tremendous success only with Punjab. The classy Karnataka batsman had a stellar outing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well, making his case to come back even stronger.
Rahul, besides being a professional cricketer, also has a job in the Reserve Bank of India as an assistant manager alongside some other famous names like Umesh Yadav and Shahbaz Nadeem. He also said in an interview a couple of years ago that his parents were more happy with him getting a job in RBI than turning an international cricketer.
