5 Commentary Lines By Tony Greig That Made Us Love The Man Behind The Mic Even More
If one man can be credited for revolutionising cricket commentary, that person is Tony Greig. In an age where those behind the mic were more composed and calm, he brought in some fresh spice to the equation. So many cricket moments were immortalised thanks to the way that he presented them. Greig brought in excitement and particularly in the 1990s and early 2000s, was a voice we loved to hear in the background. Who can forget him when Sachin Tendulkar was punishing the Aussies in Sharjah? Or Wasim Akram taking wickets in a jiffy with him talking off-screen? He just made those moments all the more special.
He unfortunately left us in 2012, but his commentary lives on. In fact Greig shares his birthday with Richie Benaud, another class commentator who was a total contrast to Greig and yet possessed just as much of flair with his words.
