5 Dark secrets leaked by IPL cheerleaders
The Indian Premier League is the most celebrated T20 event around the globe. With each passing year, its popularity is increasing exponentially. Here everything is top-notch from world-class players to renowned commentators. Even the IPL cheerleaders who entertain the audience with their special acts should be given their share of the credit. Their combined efforts have played a big role in making this tournament a huge success.
Still, the league has never been short of controversies. Match-fixing scandals, altercations between players and molestation cases have repeatedly shown the ugly side of the tournament. Add to it some shocking revelations by the cheerleaders which have clearly affected the league’s reputation. Among them, certain ones have never been discussed in brief and that’s why most people are not aware of it.
Here is the list of 5 dark secrets leaked by IPL cheerleaders
Has anybody ever thought why all the IPL cheerleaders are white-skinned girls? You might be thinking that the European and American contingent are better dancers than the Indians. No, it is a false notion and the real reason behind the idea will shock you. It is because the organizers don’t want any black person in a cheerleading squad.
In true sense, it is disgusting to hear such words as they are still differentiating a person based on the color of their skin. It is also to do with the mindset of the Indian population which considers white people as the upper class of the society.
According to a report, along with it, some cheerleaders have also stated that the organizers don’t want Indian girls to wear skinny outfits which is also a kind of racism. Due to such narrow-minded people, many skillful artists are not getting opportunities to showcase their talent.
2) Bollywood gigs
There is no doubt that the fans enjoy the dance performances of the IPL cheerleaders wholeheartedly. While watching them some might even forget to watch the cricketing action because of such graceful acts.
But the question which always lingers in their minds is about the skillset of those performers. Some might also think that they have seen those faces before. You might be guessing it right as most of the cheerleaders join the IPL bandwagon through agencies. Those agencies also supply dance troupes to Bollywood.
In one of the interactions, a cheerleader has even admitted that most of the girls of their group have done background work in the Indian film industry. She also added that her Bollywood gigs helped her in learning few authentic Indian dance moves.
When IPL started its journey it promised to be a fun-filled tournament for the audience and as well as for the cricketers. Especially for the players who are constantly under the pressure of performing at the highest level. So the authorities decided to organize after-parties where the players can relax and enjoy a get together following their grueling on-field activities.
As expected, it helped the cricketers remain fresh for a long tournament but it also had its cons. Most of the players started drinking alcohol and it led to atrocious events. Some of the players even joined the models for a ramp walk.
Once a cheerleader named Gabriella Pasqualotto revealed that some Australian and South African players behaved inappropriately after getting drunk. There were also speculations that the match-fixing discussions took place in the parties.
4) Payment issues
By seeing the glitz and glamour of IPL cheerleaders, the fans will be thinking that they are living a happy life. Also, there is a common belief they receive hefty paycheques for their performances. Unfortunately, the reality is a bitter one as they only get a small amount of money for their hard work. It also depends on the franchises as some teams pay less compared to others.
A few years ago, two Ukranian cheerleaders who worked for the Rajasthan franchise confirmed that sometimes their payments are not issued on time. They also complained about the problems related to food and necessary support items which are not usually available during their travel.
On top of that, they are mostly allocated one-star hotels which don’t have enough facilities. Some of the girls have also admitted that their hotels are way too dirty to occupy because of the animal droppings present in their rooms.
One of the least talked points in the IPL is women’s safety. In the past, the league has also faced a couple of incidents of women harassments. Even the IPL cheerleaders have sounded their displeasure on several occasions. Though they put up a show with a broad smile on their faces there have been times when they have raised the security concerns. However, the authorities have never tried to work out on solutions for them.
According to a cheerleader, most of the Indian audience treat them like sex dolls. They shout out words that contain a high level of obscenity. One of them has also stated that here the fans undervalue their art form. She went onto add that they also have to wear uncomfortable outfits that are not properly designed.
In one of the cases, the police have searched their rooms without any warrant which further validates the point. In all, the organizers have never treated them in a respectable manner.
