Afghanistan continuing their glorious touch in the game of cricket. After securing Test match against Bangladesh, they outsmarted Zimbabwe and Bangladesh on a trot to rewrite their own record in the T20 format of the International Cricket, Afghanistan raced to a world record 12 successive Twenty20 international wins with a 25-run victory against Bangladesh on Sunday.

Mohammad Nabi’s 54-ball 84 not out was complemented by off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s career-best 4 for 15 as Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by 25 runs to go top in the Twenty20 tri-series on Sunday. Nabi’s fireworks saw Afghanistan recover from 40 for 4 to compile a respectable 164 for 6 after which Rahman’s bowling helped to dismiss Bangladesh for 139 in 19.5 overs.

Gulbadin Naib broke the partnership by removing Mahmudullah, who made 44 off 39 balls for Bangladesh. Later, Mujeeb ended Sabbir’s innings at 24 in his final over to surpass his previous best of 3-17 against Ireland.

Afghanistan started their winning streak in February 2018, when they defeated Zimbabwe twice in two days in Sharjah. They then whitewashed Bangladesh 3-0 in India before a 2-0 away series win against Ireland. They beat Ireland three more times before their two wins in the ongoing tri-series.

Speaking after the match, Mohammad Nabi credited the team for the success. He believes it was the team effort, which helped them to seal the victory against a tough side like Bangladesh.

“Totally team effort, Bangladesh were brilliant with the ball early, but Asghar and I planned to target last five overs. The shot selection at the top wasn’t great. Good for me to concentrate on white-ball cricket. In franchise we have different roles and here we have different roles as Mujeeb opens for us, he was brilliant so was the captain,” man of the match Mohammad Nabi said after the match.

The previous record of registering successive T20I victories was also held by Afghanistan. They had completed 11 T20I wins from March 27, 2016, to March 12, 2017. Afghanistan will next take on Zimbabwe on September 20 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
