After successfully retaining the Ashes against England in the summer, Australia are set to kickstart their home season against Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series which will be played as cosplay to the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The 2020 T20 World Cup host nation will play The Islanders in the T20I series opener on Sunday at Adelaide Oval. The buoyant away side are coming to the opening tie of their tour to Australia after registering an unprecedented series clean sweep over Pakistan for the first time in seven attempts.

Return of Smith and Warner

The second string Sri Lankan side at the time handed the No.1 World T20I side a devastating 3-0 scoreline which further triggered the sacking of former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed following the historic whitewash of the home side. The 1st T20I between the two sides will also mark the return of the Steve Smith and David Warner to the shortest format of the game for Australia.

The controversial duo was previously banned from international cricket for their involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa last year. Star batsman Aaron Finch will be leading the Aussies as he was declared fit ahead of the first match in Adelaide. His opening partner Warner, who had a disappointing run with the willow is the side's leading run-scorer in the format and will be looking for a change of fortunes against Sri Lanka.

Team news

While Sri Lanka have already started their World T20 preparations with a bang in Pakistan, the hosts are yet to contest their first limited-overs game after a bitter-sweet campaign in the England and Wales spectacle. The Aussies have named a star-studded lineup against the Lankan Lions and are spearheaded by the return of Smith and Warner. Speed merchants Lasith Malinga has also marked his return to the squad and he will be leading the potent bowling attack alongside Nuwan Pradeep and Kasun Rajitha.
