Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Reacts To Ban On Shakib Al Hasan
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also reacted to the ban and has said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be with Shakib. “If ICC takes any step, then there will be no scope to do anything for him (Shakib). It’s right that he made the mistake and he realised it. Yet, the BCB will be with him,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina is a keen follower of the game and has attended matches in the country. In fact, she will also witness India and Bangladesh play a day/night Test next month at Eden Gardens as she has accepted Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) invitation to attend the match. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the day 1 of the Test match.
Shakib, who has been banned for two years, will sit out of the game for one year as the apex board suspended one-year punishment. The news of Shakib being banned wasn’t a surprise to many as earlier in the day, Samakal, a Bengali daily, had revealed the news on its front page.
ICC was in touch with BCB for past few days, which also BCB keeping Shakib away from practice sessions. From the outside, it looked like the cricketer was himself opting out of sessions as a mark of protest against the board.
Just few days back, he had led players’ strike against the board. After a truce between the two parties, Shakib beached his central contract by signing a deal with a mobile company. BCB was planning to send a notice to Shakib.
During the ban-period, Shakib will miss T20 World Cup, all bilateral series and the Indian Premier League as well. before the auction as the last day to release players has not been announced yet.
