BCCI Accepts Dinesh Karthik’s Unconditional Apology For Attending Trinbago Knight Riders Match In Caribbean Premier League
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has accepted Dinesh Karthik’s unconditional apology, a report in PTI suggests. He was sent a notice by the board after the wicketkeeper-batsman attended a Caribbean Premier League game for Trinbago Knight Riders, without the permission of BCCI.
Karthik was seen sitting in the dressing of TKR during the opening game of them seasons. The fans took to social media to share the screenshots of Karthik sitting in the dressing room in a TKR t-shirt.
Soon, the BCCI took note of it and asked for an explanation from Karthik and asked him why his central contact should not be cancelled. As per the rules, no Indian player, whether contracted with BCCI or not, can take part in any of the private T20 league or promote it. Although Karthik did not take part in the match.
After being asked by BCCI, Karthik, in his letter to the board, wrote that he travelled to Caribbean islands after being asked by Brendon McCullum and attended the match on his advice. Since he had apologised to BCCI, it was uncertain that the board would have taken an action and as it turned out to be, Karthik’s apology has been accepted by BCCI.
McCullum is the head coach of Trinbago Knight Riders and Kolkata Knight Riders as well. KKR is the sister franchise of TKR. Both the teams have the same owners.
Karthik will now be turning up for Tamil Nad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019/20. and has also joined the team’s camp.
He will be eyeing a comeback to the national squad on the basis of performances in the List A tournament. Although he got dropped from the national squad after World Cup 2019, but with MS Dhoni’s future uncertain, Karthik can make a comeback in T20 format due to his finishing abilities.
Apart from Karthik, Murali Vijay, Vijay Shankar and Washington Sundar are other international stars in Tamul Nadu’s squad. The team will miss out on the services fo R Ashwin as he is a part of the Test side for South Africa series.
