BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly opens up on Rishabh Pant's failures during Bangladesh T20Is
Rishabh Pant has been hitting the headlines due to unwanted reasons. Since the 2019 World Cup, India have given him a consistent run but, unfortunately, the returns haven't been as expected from the 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman. While he failed in the West Indies tour and India-South Africa T20Is, his miseries have continued even in the ongoing India-Bangladesh T20Is at home.
While he managed a 26-ball 27 in the series opener in Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, his poor DRS judgments hogged the limelight during India's defense of 150. In the second and penultimate match, in Rajkot, on Thursday (November 7), the keeper was once again in the news due to his carelessness while going for a stumping chance.
In a bid to stump-out Liton Das, off Yuzvendra Chahal, Pant collected the ball before the stumps and dismantled the bails. Hence, the final decision turned against Team India, and the youngster faced the brunt of the criticism. Following the Rajkot match, BCCI chief and former skipper Sourav Ganguly came in support of Pant and told PTI, "He's a superb player. Give Rishabh Pant time, he will be fine. He will mature slowly, you have to give him time. India played really well last night."
Seeing him from closed quarters during his stint in Delhi Capitals (DC) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, as team advisor, Ganguly has faith in Pant and believes he will turn the tables against his critics with time.
Nonetheless, the Indian cricket fans haven't been considerate on Pant. Calls for MS Dhoni's return commences with every mistake from Pant on the field, and the 22-year-old will be eager to perform in all cylinders in the final T20I.
The third and final match will be held at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on Sunday (November 10). India lost the series opener by seven wickets, which became Bangla Tigers' first win over India in the format, but Rohit Sharma and Co. levelled the series with a comfortable eight-wicket win in Rajkot.
The T20Is will be followed by two-match Test series, including a day-night affair at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
