CAB to felicitate Ganguly; Azharuddin among invitees
KOLKATA: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is planning a gala ceremony to felicitate Sourav Ganguly next Friday. Ganguly will formally take over as BCCI president at its annual general meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Ganguly will be presented with a silver plaque with his face engraved in golden colour at the function to be held at the Eden Gardens lawn.
The CAB has sent invitations to his former India teammates Mohammad Azharuddin, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and VVS Laxman to be present at the function.
Before his coronation, Ganguly will be travelling to Kochi on Sunday for the inauguration of ISL-6. "I'm the face of ISL and have shot for them. So I will be attending the opening ceremony in Kerala," Ganguly said.
The former India opener has stepped down from his position as mentor of Delhi Capitals but is set to continue shooting for the reality Bengali television show Dadagiri.
With Ganguly taking guard at BCCI, the CAB will have to look for a new president. The first meeting of the newly-formed Apex Council has been convened on Monday. The Council is expected to decide on a date to conduct election to fill the vacant post.
As of now, secretary Avishek Dalmiya is the frontrunner to succeed Ganguly at CAB.
Meanwhile CAB has reportedly sent an invitation to Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina to watch her country's Test match against India at the Eden Gardens from November 22-26.
Unconfirmed news said CAB has also sent invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the match.
