Carlos Brathwaite, Lendl Simmons Engage In A Heated Argument – Watch
The game of cricket has always been called a gentleman game but sometimes, the cricketers display the other side of it. One such scenario took place in the Caribean Premier League 2019 when Ledle Simmons of Trinbago Knight Riders and Carlos Brathwaite of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots involved in a heated argument regarding the runout.
Chasing a moderate target of 126, Trinbago Knight Riders were reeling at 35-3 off 7 overs, with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots bowlers strangling them. On the first ball of the eighth over, Fabian Allen bowled a good-length delivery to Ramdin, who flicked the ball towards the square.
Though the two batsmen were satisfied with a single and after the ball was “dead”, Ramdin, who was now at the non-strikers’ end, touched his bat down and walked to the middle to have a chat with his partner Simmons, assuming that the ball was dead.Credits – CPL
Meanwhile, the Patriots’ skipper Brathwaite was unhappy with the chatter between the batsmen. He took the bails off at the non-striker’s end and asked the umpire for a run-out. Though the umpires instantly dismissed the appeal, noting that the ball was dead, a furious Brathwaite was not having any of it.
Lendl Simmons scored a fighting fifty:
This resulted in a heated exchange between Brathwaite and Simmons. The duo had to be separated by the umpires before the play resumed. As far as the game is concerned, it was Lendl Simmons, who scored a fighting fifty to help his side come near to the victory. Ironically, it was Carlos Brathwaite, who dismissed Simmons.
He was helped by Dinesh Ramdin, who was in the middle of being unbeaten until the end of the match. Though Riders were put in a difficult situation, Kieron Pollard finished the task with ease to make things fall in place. Now, Riders will face Barbados Tridents in the qualifier 2. The winner will meet Guyana in the final.
