Cheteshwar Pujara Praises Rohit Sharma’s Performace
Cheteshwar Pujara showed a classic performance in the first Test match against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. He played very well and scored 81 runs in India’s second innings, hitting 13 fours and 2 sixes. He with Rohit Sharma built a strong partnership and gave a good start to the team in that innings.
On the second day of the Test match, he was out on the ball of Philander after striking just 6 runs. But he returned with power-packed performance on the 4th day as scored 81 runs.
In the West Indies tour, Pujara was not in the form as he was out very cheaply. His highest score in the tour was 27 runs. In total, he scored 60 runs in the two Tests of that series.
He opined that Rohit Sharma’s partnership had helped him in the field. Rohit Sharma scored 127 runs in that second innings.
Pujara said after the end of the day four, “Things worked out in my favour and Rohit batted really well so that helped me.”
It’s still a tough pitch to bat on – Cheteshwar Pujara
Pujara opined about the pitch as he said that it will be a difficult task for Proteas to chase the 395 runs target. The pitch condition can halt the visitors to score such a big target on the fifth day.
Pujara said, “It’s still a tough pitch to bat on and it’s never easy to play on a two-paced pitch. It’ll spin out of the rough a lot on Day 5 so batting will certainly not be easy.”
He added, “It was slower and it wasn’t easy to play my shots but I knew my impact point had to change in my shots. Sometimes just playing one format affects you, but that allowed me to work on my fitness and fielding, and I think that worked out well for me.”
Pujara made the Test debut for the team in 2010 and since then he has played 70 Test matches and scored 5486 runs. He has also featured in ODIs for the five times but still not made the debut in T20Is.
Meanwhile, the fourth day ended with Proteas scoring 11 runs with the loss of 1 wicket of the opener .
