With the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently changing its 'Super Over' rule to decide the semi-final and final of World Cups, its inception had taken place in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has given cricket fans multiple moments that they can not forget. Legends and youngsters have played together in this tournament and the crowds have been treated to fantastic cricket. In this article, we take a look at five of the most memorable Super Overs in IPL history.

Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2009

The first ever Super Over in IPL history was when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to tie the match on the last ball, chasing 150 to win against Rajasthan Royals. Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum opened for KKR in the Super Over and set a target of 16 to win for the Royals. Yusuf Pathan came in to bat for RR and hit a six at the very first ball. That blow pretty much sealed KKR's fate as Pathan smashed a boundary to complete the winning formalities.

Rajasthan Royals vs Kings XI Punjab, 2015

Kings XI Punjab were chasing RRs's 191 and an Akshar Patel four off the last ball of the match made the scores level. David Miller and Shaun Marsh opened the batting for Punjab in the Super Over as Chris Morris came in to bowl. Miller was out on the very first ball but the Punjab camp was saved by Shaun Marsh who scored boundaries and got Punjab to 15 in the Super Over. Mitchell Johnson bowled for Punjab as Shane Watson and James Faulkner opened the Royals' batting in an all-Australian battle between the World Cup 2015 winners. Johnson cleaned up Watson on the very first ball and Steve Smith was run-out in the third ball to hand Punjab a comprehensive win.

Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2019

Hyderabad tied Mumbai's score of 162 to force a Super Over. Manish Pandey lost his wicket on the very first ball of the Super over. Mohammad Nabi hit a six as SRH managed just 8 batting first. Mumbai finished the proceedings in three balls as Hardik Pandya hit Rashid Khan out of the ground in the very first ball of the Super Over chase.

Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2019

Delhi Capitals were looking comfortable enough to win this match before Prithvi Shaw got out on 99. DC just scraped by to tie KKR's score of 185. DC could only manage 10 in the Super Over. The in-form and ever-destructive Andre Russell opened for KKR as Kagiso Rabada came in to bowl. Russell hit the first ball for a confident boundary. Rabada then uprooted Russell's middle stump on the third ball, bringing DC back into contention. KKR could only manage seven runs in their Super Over as Delhi won, which helped them advance to the playoffs eventually.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Banglore, 2013

Sunrisers tied RCB's score 130. The Super Over saw Cameron White hit two sixes for SRH as set up a tough 21 runs to win for RCB. Dale Steyn came in to bowl against Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli. The duo could only manage 15 runs as Steyn contained them well and got SRH the victory.
