Death of Michael de Zoysa: condolence message from CDCA
The Colombo District Cricket Association was shocked and saddened to learn the sudden demise of Mr. Michael De Zoysa last Sunday.
Mr. Michael De Zoysa was very much involved with the activities of Colombo DCA since its inception and held the Post of President of the Association for six consecutive years from 1993 and subsequently served as a Vice Patron until his demise.
During his tenure he initiated the CDCA Trophy Tournament which has been held for 26 unbroken years as the Premier District Tournament of the country.
De Zoysa also took the lead to revive the prestigious Gopalan Trophy Tournament as an annual encounter between Colombo DCA and Tamil Nadu CA. De Zoysa’s contribution to the development of the game of cricket in Sri Lanka as a Member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka and subsequently as the Manager of the National Teamis well known. He was a gentleman who courageously stood by his principals without fear and always had the interest of the game at heart.
Colombo DCA had lost a dear friend and a valuable advisor with his demise and De Zoysa would be badly missed but not forgotten. We all wish him the eternal rest and share our grief with his bereaved family.
