Despite the poor air condition in Delhi, it has been confirmed that there will be no change in the venue and the Arun Jaitley Stadium will host the opening T20I as planned.
This isn’t the first time when a player has worn a mask in Delhi. In 2017, the members of the Sri Lankan cricket team wore masks during the third Test of the series. In fact, the match was even stopped on occasions and few players also fell ill.
In 2018, Mumbai’s middle-order batsman Siddhesh Lad also batted wearing a mask during a Ranji Trophy game against Railways at the Karnail Singh Stadium. In 2016, two Ranji Trophy matches in Delhi were cancelled due to smog in the state.
The BCCI had decided not to allocate any match to Delhi in the month of October, November and December but the rotation policy saw the opening game of the series being allocated to Delhi.
Delhi pollution might not have much impact during the match as it starts at 7:00 PM.
While Bangladesh’s players have started training, a report in IANS had suggested that the members of the Indian cricket team might avoid practising in Delhi and might just train at the gym. The members of the Indian cricket team are set to arrive in Delhi today and will kick off the preparations for the T20I tomorrow.
Loking at the present condition, it is likely that India will cancel the outside session and will consider training in gym only.
Rohit Sharma will be leading Men in Blue in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli. Bangladesh will have a new captain in Mahmudullah, who replaced Shakib Al Hasan.
