Faiz Fazal to continue to play for Lisburn Club in 2020

NAGPUR: Faiz Fazal always believes in performing consistently. For him, the last innings doesn't matter much even if he had scored daddy hundred. It's his remarkable consistency over the years which has earned him the respect in the domestic circuit and English club cricket.

Faiz has consistently performed well for whichever club he has played for the last four five years. He had a great last season with Lisburn Cricket Club in the Northern Cricket Union Premier League in Ireland. The southpaw will continue playing for the club in 2020 season as well. He has extended his contract on Tuesday.

The club took their twitter handle to announce the signing. "Great to have Faiz back next year!#LCC #Burn," the club's twitter account "@OfficialLCC said.

Faiz scored 608 runs at an average of 55.27 with the help three hundreds and three fifties in 12 innings for Lisburn in last season. The 34-year-old remained unbeaten on 99 in his last innings for the club.

Lisburn Club skipper Adam Berry is delighted to have the talented Vidarbha opener back. "Faiz is a quality player something which he demonstrated last season. He brings a great sense of professionalism to the team.

"He is someone we can all look up to and learn from. I have no doubt Faiz will make another positive impact through his performances and coaching. Everyone at Lisburn is looking forward to welcoming him and his family next summer," Berry, a former Ireland youth international, told TOI on Wednesday.

Berry termed Faiz "a natural leader" and someone who has respect of the team. "Players are instantly drawn to him. Faiz quickly gained the respect and admiration through his hard work and dedication.

"Faiz understands the game very well and provides great insights. Players are keen to learn from and listen to someone of Faiz's stature. His domestic record in India speaks for itself as he is a consistently high performer and excellent leader as his Ranji and Irani trophy successes illustrate," he added.

Lisburn Club in the Robinson Services Premier League, which is the top division in the region. Faiz had played for Batley Cricket Club in the Yorkshire Premier League in 2007 where he scored over a 1000 league runs. In 2016, he played just 6 games for Hetton Lyons Club when he got his maiden International call up.

Faiz had an outstanding 2017 season in the ECB's Liverpool Premier League playing for Ainsdale CC where he finished the highest run scorer with 1036 runs at an average of 57.56 with 5 hundreds.

In 2018, Faiz joined ECB's Cornwall Premier League team, Truro Cricket Club. The Vidarbha skipper scored 567 runs at an average of 47.25 but it was his bowling that caught everyone's eye. He scalped 41 wickets at an average of 13.02 in 17 games with the best of 5-40 against frontrunners, Werrington CC.
