Despite rain disrupting the proceedings in the fifth and final T20I between New Zealand and England in Auckland on Sunday, the match was not short of any entertainment as the contest was reduced to 11-overs per side. After inviting the Kiwis to bat first, the decision seemed to backfire for the Eoin Morgan-led England unit as the opening pair of Martin Guptill and Colin Munro got the hosts off to a strong start. Perishing the English bowlers right from the word go, the pair added 83 in just 31 deliveries as New Zealand posted a gigantic 146/5 on the board in 11 overs.

In response, the visitors got off to a poor start but some splendid batting display from Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, and Chris Jordan proved enough as England managed to level the scores in the final delivery of their innings.

As the match progressed into the super overs, it reminded the fans of the epic World Cup 2019 final, in which the winners were decided in a similar fashion. This shocking turn of events left the fans and the cricket fraternity amused as many took to Twitter reminiscing the dramatic finale at Lord’s in London.

Here are a few tweets:

For the World Cup winners, opener Bairstow and skipper Morgan took the charge in the super over as the duo smashed two sixes in Tim Southee’s over to help England post 17 in the six deliveries. In response, the Kiwis could only manage 8/1 as England once again emerged victorious in super overs.

With this dramatic victory, England also clinched the five-match series, winning it 3-2. The visitors will now play two Tests against New Zealand, with the first match scheduled to start from Movember 21.
