The first T20I of the series between India and South Africa was washed out, courtesy consistent rain in Dharamsala. The forecast for the match wasn’t very good but the rain eased few minutes prior to the toss. At first, the toss was delayed and later, the match was pushed as well.

Soon, it started raining heavily in Dharamsala which nearly confirmed that there might be no play at the venue. At nearly 19:45, it was confirmed that team India’s home season opener will be a washed-out affair. The water had collected inside the playing area and there were no chances of play, even if the rain would have stopped.

Fans slammed BCCI after a washed-out affair and questioned to move to organise a match in Dharamsala during monsoons. Here is how Twitterati reacted –

With the first T20I being washed out, both the remaining matches are now must-win for both the teams to seal the series. Also, the washed-out affair might prevent both the teams from making experiments in the squad.

The team winning the second T20I would want to retain the same combination for the decider and the team losing the match will, of course, will avoid making oodles of changes after the defeat.

The acton will now move to Mohali, where the second T20I will be played on September 18. The northern state of India is not very far away from Dharamsala and the players might reach the state tonight itself.

Afte the second T20I, the third and the final T20I of the series will be played in Bangalore on September 22.

After the completion of the T20I series, the two teams will play three Test matches. The first match will be played in Vizag from October 2. Pune and Ranchi will host the second and third Test from October 10 and 19, respectively.

The players who are a part of the T20I squad will join their respective state teams to be part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Krunal Pandya is expected to lead Baroda in the tournament. Rahul Chahar will play for Rajasthan. Sundar has already been named in Tamil Nadu’s squad.

Team India’s next T20 assignment will come against West Indies at home.
