From Yuvraj to Gambhir: ICC T20 WC 2007 winning batch of India reflects on historic win over Pakistan

As the whole nation celebrates the 12th anniversary of India's historic triumph against Pakistan in the inaugural ICC World T20 2007, the World Cup-winning batch of the then MS Dhoni-led side recalled the famous victory over arch-rivals that changed the context of Indian cricket altogether. Revisiting the monumental achievement, former Indian players Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir shared pictures of the thrilling win against Pakistan in the summit clash of the 2007 World T20 edition.

After entering the final with their arch-rivals Pakistan, Dhoni and Co. opted to have a bat first in the summit clash. Indian opener Gautam Gambhir made a quick-fire 75 to propel India post a challenging 157/5 in their 20 overs. In their reply, Pakistan lost Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal and skipper Shoaib Mailk for cheap. However, Imran Nazir and Younis Khan revived Pakistan's chances of lifting the trophy with crucial starts.

Billing up to its hype, India versus Pakistan mega clash went down the wire with Misbah-ul-Haq turning out to be the knight in shining armour of the Green Army. Misbah single-handedly kept Pakistan in the hunt and even took the match to the final over.

Hailed as the brain behind India's second World Cup success in white-ball cricket, Dhoni handed the ball to seamer Joginder Sharma and rest is now history. Sharing a glimpse of the famous triumph over Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) saluted the batch of the World Cup-winning batch of 2007 with special tweets.

Yuvraj, who has been an integral part of India's 2007 and 2011 World Cup triumphs took to Twitter expressed gratitude with a throwback picture. "That moment of pure happiness when you win the World Cup for your country. Can’t ever be expressed in words," Yuvraj said.

The 2007 extravaganza in South Africa is also remembered for Yuvraj's six sixes in an over as he took Stuart Broad to the extremes during India's virtual eliminator match against England. Indian speed merchant Irfan Pathan also recalled Yuvraj's special feet and revealed his favourite moment of the 2007 World Cup.

Indian opener Gambhir came up with a dedicated tweet to celebrate 12 years of the historic event. "The rush of fulfilling the dreams of a billion people and being crowned World Champions," Gambhir said.
