Ever since making his debut in 2016, Hardik Pandya has proved to be a vital cog in the new era of Indian setup. The 25-year-old has been key to Team India's balance across formats. While Pandya's capabilities with the ball allow India to enjoy an additional cushion in the bowling department, his artistry with the willow adds depth to the batting line-up.

Often labelled as the new-age Kapil Dev, Pandya might have been integral to Team India's plans, but playing more matches has also taken a toll on his body. The Mumbai Indians star has struggled with injuries in the past which have often kept him away from the cricket field. He last featured in the three-match T20I series against South Africa where he aggravated his back injury.

Owing to his fragile health conditions, the all-rounder was not picked in the Indian squad for the ongoing three-match Test series against South Africa at home. In a bid to overcome his condition, Pandya, on 2nd October, left for the United Kingdom to get his back checked by the same doctor who treated him during India's tour of England in 2018 and the 2019 World Cup.

On 5th October, Pandya shared a picture of himself lying on a hospital bed after a "successful" lower back surgery which seems to have ruled him out for an indefinite period. Taking to Twitter, Pandya broke the news of his surgery with a photo of himself that carried the caption: "Surgery done successfully. Extremely grateful to everyone for your wishes. Will be back in no time! Till then miss me".

As soon as he shared the post, the Indian cricket fans showered love and support to a recovering Pandya and wished him a speedy recovery.

Given his recent surgery, Pandya is set to miss the T20I home series between India and Bangladesh which is slated to begin from 3rd November. The star cricketer - who has played 11 Tests, 54 ODIs and 40 T20Is - will surely be key to India's campaign in the ICC World T20 in Australia next year. So, let's hope that the Indian all-rounder manages to recover just in time to don the iconic 'Blue' jersey for the coveted tournament.
