Harmanpreet Kaur Leapfrogs MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma To Become First Indian Cricketer To Play 100 T20Is
Dhoni, the former India captain, has played 98 T20Is while Rohit is also just two T20Is short of becoming first men cricketer to play 100 T20Is. Indian skipper Virat Kohli has played 72 T20Is and still needs around one year to reach the milestone.
Harmanpreet had taken over as the leader in the shortest format in 2016, replacing Mithali Raj in the role. She is deputy to Mithali in ODI format and will tke over the position when the senior player retires. Harmanpreet has led India in an ODI.
Harmanpreet achieved the record in the sixth and the additional T20I against South Africa. BCCI had added an extra T20I to the five-match series after two games were washed out.
The historic T20I did not go down India’s way as the hosts lost the match by a big margin of 105 runs. Batting first, the Sune Luus-led side posted a big total of 175/3 on the board. In reply, India were six down for 13 but managed 70 runs on the board. Harmanpreet scalped one wicket but managed just one run with the bat.
India won the six-match T20I series by a margin of 3-1. The hosts had won 1st, 4th and 5th T20I.
Team India’s next assignment will start next week as they also host South Africa in three ODIs to be played in Vadodara. Following that, they will travel to the West Indies for three ODIs and five T20Is.
Mithali will lead the team in ODIs while Harmanpreet will head the team in T20Is. The tour kicks off on November 1 and ends on November 20.
