How Carlos Brathwaite's all-round show in Super Over handed TKR their first CPL 2019 defeat
Four matches played four won by Trinbago Knight Riders but a superlative all-round show by Carlos Brathwaite on Tuesday ensured that TKR suffered their first defeat of the season, albeit in a dramatic fashion that saw the match being concluded in a Super Over.
Batting first, it was Lendl Simmons whose 45-ball 90 helped the Knight Riders post another 200-plus total on the board as they scored 216 at the cost of 4 wickets in 20 overs. For St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, it wasn't the best of starts as Devon Thomas and Laurie Evans departed early, having scored 1 and 15 runs respectively.
Evin Lewis continued his good form, scoring a 21-ball 45 but the bulk of the work was done by all-round Brathwaite smashed 64 runs from 30 balls to take the team close to the target. The hosts were left with a tricky target to chase in the end as 19 runs were required off the final over, with James Neesham given the responsibility by TKR to defend it.
It was a Deja Vu situation for the Kiwi all-rounder as he saw the game going into the Super Over – just like it did in the 2019 ICC World Cup final against England. Neesham was guilty of bowling two no-balls, while some sloppy fielding by his teammates saw Rayad Emrit smash a four on the final ball to level the scores.
Here's how the Super Over went from thereon:
Ball 1: Ali Khan to Brathwaite - SIX
Ball 2: Ali Khan to Brathwaite - Single
Ball 3: Ali Khan to Lewis - Single
Ball 4: Ali Khan to Brathwaite - Dot
Ball 5: Ali Khan to Brathwaite - SIX
Ball 7: Ali Khan to Brathwaite - Four
In the Super Over, SNP managed to put 18 runs on the board.

Ball 3: Brathwaite to Simmons - Single
Ball 4: Brathwaite to Pollard - Dot

The TKR skipper only conceded 5 runs in the Super Over to put an end to the visitors' unbeaten run in the tournament. It should also be noted that SNP coach Robin Singh wanted the Super Over to be bowled by Alzarri Joseph, but Brathwaite took the responsibility in his own hands in delivered.
