HPCA elections: Sports activist moves to SC on violations
DHARAMSHALA: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) is heading for presidential elections this month, this has brought this sports body on the radar of politicians and sports activists. After congress targeted this body alleging violation of rules, now a sports activist a former secretary of HPCA has moved to Supreme Court seeking the intervention of apex court on alleged violations.
Gautam Thakur, president of Lahul Spiti cricket association has moved to court on HPCA highlighting violations of Lodha committee in constitution of this sports body.
"I had filed a petition this month on September 19. As per the recommendation of Supreme Court, the violations of the Lodha committee can be raised directly to the apex court, so I did that. I had been a former secretary of HPCA and sitting president of cricket association of Lahul Spiti" he added.
Dinesh Kumar, the counsel of Gautam Thakur at Delhi said that various points have been highlighted in the petition which was filed last week.
"The HPCA has taken government land on lease but still there are few outsiders in this sports body. We have raised issue that people of Himachal should be given representation in this body. Moreover, the constitution of HPCA states that it will make international players as member, but we have demanded to include first class cricket players from state which as per our information are around 170" said Dinesh Kumar talking to TOI on phone from Delhi.
The elections are scheduled in HPCA on September 27. The body was headed by BJP leader Anurag Thakur for more than one decade who is now sitting Minister of states in union government. Now, the eyes have turned to Arun Dhumal his younger brother and son of former Chief Minister PK Dhumal that he may be projected as next president.
Recently, Congress leader Ramlal Thakur sitting legislature addressed a press conference at Shimla targeting Arun Dhumal. He alleged that HPCA has done manipulation in the list handed over to administrators appointed under Lodha committee and alteration with the name of Arun Dhumal has been done.
"The sports body has become a property of one family only" he had said targeting BJP leader.
When contacted, RP Singh one of the senior member of the HPCA reacting to this development said that the body has not violated any laws or any conditions laid by apex court.
"We have also got a clearance from controller of administrator of BCCI that HPCA is duly implementing all the recommendations laid by the apex court" he added.
