IAAF World Athletics Championships 2019: Schedule, Indian participants, Telecast, Live Streaming and more
The IAAF World Athletics Championships began on September 27 in Doha, with M Sreeshankar being the first athlete to represent the country in this edition of the worlds. The opening day's action also saw Dharun Ayyasamy, JM Pilayil participate in the 400 meters hurdles. The day concluded with a mixed response for Indian athletes. While Pillyalil qualified to the next round, Dharun and Sreeshankar faltered.
With the Indian contingent entering the Athletics Championships without two of their biggest athletes - javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and sprinter Hima Das - the expectations as far as medals return is concerned, isn't too high. A total of 27 Indian athletes have been named for the mega event.
Anju Bobby George remains the only athlete to have managed a medal at the Athletics Championships before, having bagged a bronze in long jump during the 2003 edition. It remains to be seen what sort of a return the contingent gives on the 17th edition of the Games. Dutee Chand is arguably the brightest prospect for India.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has hopes from the three 4x400m relays, especially the mixed event which will be making its debut in this edition.
