The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday has released the schedule for next year's Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020. The World Cup will be held in South Africa and will begin on January 17 with the conclusion on 19th Feburary.

16 teams will take part in this World Cup and are divided into groups of four. Defending champions India are placed in Group A alongside New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Surprisingly, Japan has also qualified this time and they are the fourth entrant in group A.

India's first match of the campaign will be against Sri Lanka on 19 January. The match will be played at Bloemfontein. They will next face Japan on January 21 and then New Zealand on January 24.

A total of 16 teams are divided into four groups in the Under-19 World Cup. In fact, the Under-19 World Cup will feature 11 full ICC members and five regional champions. All teams will also play warm-up matches between January 12 and 15 in Johannesburg and Pretoria. This is the second time when South Africa is hosting an U19 world cup, they last hosted way back in 1998.

Nigeria and Japan will make their first ever appearance in any cricket world cup.

"The U19 Cricket World Cup is a very important event in our calendar as it brings together the world's most promising young players in a major ICC tournament, giving them the experience of competing on the global stage.

"We have some excellent venues for this tournament, and we are offering free entry to all matches giving cricket fans in South Africa the opportunity to watch the next generation of superstars. I wish all the teams the very best in their preparations for the tournament and to Cricket South Africa in organising the event," said ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley.

Group-A: India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Japan.

Group-B: Australia, England, West Indies and Nigeria.

Group-C: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Scotland.
