Team India floored the South Africans late on Day 2 by sending back their openers to the pavilion. After posting a monumental first innings score of 497-9d, the visitors were left to negotiate five overs on second day before rains called brought about an early end to proceedings. Indian opener Rohit Sharma starred with the bat as he registered his highest Test score. His epic 212 from 255 balls was his first Test double-hundred, sixth century of his career and his third of the series. The Proteas resumed Day 3 at 9-2 with overnight batsmen Zubayr Hamza and Faf du Plessis still at the crease.

Key moments from the morning session on Day 3

Umesh Yadav’s early strike

In just fifth delivery of the day, Umesh Yadav cleaned up Faf du Plessis with an absolute peach. The South African skipper could not add to his overnight score as he was dismissed for just 1 to leave the visitors struggling at 16-3. Yadav broke through Faf’s forward defence as the ball nipped away to shatter the stumps.

Zubayr Hamza grit-filled half-century

South Africa's number three cracked a counter-attacking 62 to register his maiden Test fifty. After the Proteas were reduced to 16-3, Hamza played a gritty knock from just 79 balls which included 46 runs from boundaries. His dismissal finally brought an end to a 91-run partnership between him and Temba Bavuma.

Shahbaz Nadeem’s first Test wicket

Shahbaz Nadeem got his first Test wicket when the left-arm spinner bamboozled Bavuma with a flighted delivery. Bavuma, who scored 32, was stumped by Saha after his 72-ball stay at the crease. One more wicket fell after this as the Proteas ended session 1 at 129-6.
