IND vs SA, 4th T20: India Women beat South Africa by 51 runs, took unassailable 2-0 lead
In the fourth T20 match played at Surat, India beat South Africa by 51 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The match was reduced to 17 overs due to rain. India scored 140/4, in response the visiting team could score only 89 runs after losing 7 wickets.
Poonam Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match for her excellent bowling. It may be noted that the second and third matches of the five-match T20 series were canceled due to rain, while India won the first match.
After losing the toss and batting first, the Indian team got a good start by the openers Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana by adding 55 runs for the first wicket. The first blow to the Indian team was in the seventh over as Smriti Mandhana (13 runs, 19 balls).
On the other hand, young Shefali Verma, playing his second match, missed out on a half-century and returned to the pavilion after scoring 46 off 33 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also got out soon after scoring 16 runs off 9 balls. Jemimah Rodrigues (33 runs, 22 balls) and Deepti Sharma (20* runs, 16 balls) contributed useful runs in the final overs and the Indian team reached 140 runs losing 4 wickets in 17 overs.
In response South Africa got the first blow as Liezel Lee (9 runs, 11 balls) on the score of 10. After this, the Tazmin Brits and Laura Volvoort shared a 39-run partnership for the second wicket. The second setback for the visiting team came in the form of Laura on a score of 49.
In front of the tight bowling of Indian bowlers, the Proteas team lost wickets continuously and could only make 89 runs by losing 7 wickets in the given 17 overs. For India, leg spinner Poonam Yadav took 3 wickets for 13 runs in 3 overs.
