Former England captain Michael Vaughan has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment with pitches in India generated for international Test cricket. Following his tweet, Vaughan was at the receiving end of several taunts from ardent Indian cricket fans.

On October 11, shortly after Indian captain Virat Kohli crossed the 150-mark on Day 2 of the ongoing second India vs South Africa Test at Pune, Vaughan sent out his tweet. The match is currently in its third day of play and is being dominated by India as South Africa have lost five wickets already.

"Test match pitches in India are boring"

Vaughan's tweet, which triggered extreme reactions from plenty of Indian cricket fans, refers to the phenomenon of batsmen dominating the game on Indian surfaces. The first Test had seen India batting first after winning the toss and dominating South Africa from the word go as Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal put up a 317-run opening partnership without losing a wicket. The second Test at Pune has been similar as India crossed 600 in the first innings, courtesy of Virat Kohli's 254*, Mayank Agarwal's 108 and Ravindra Jadeja's 91. Indian pitches typically support spinners more than fast bowlers and are a notorious challenge for visiting teams. Vaughan's comment did not go too well with the Indian fans as they quickly started attacking the former England skipper's home pitches.

India vs South Africa 2nd Test: The story so far...

After the first Test at Vizag, both teams proceeded to Pune. A change in venue did not impact the visitors' fortunes positively as India won the toss again and chose to bat on Day 1. Virat Kohli led from the front with his seventh Test double-hundred. India declared on 601/5. The South African batting attack has not been able to get a foot into the game and at the time of writing this, South Africa is at 106/5.
