Bangladesh are yet to register their first T20I win over India since they played their first T20I in T20 World Cup 2009. In Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal’s absence, Mahmudullah will be leading the Bangladesh side. Both the sides will aim at trying out new combinations in the series as they prepare for T20 World Cup next year.
In Virat Kohli’s absence, Rohit Sharma will be leading Team India. Sharma has an 80 per cent win record in T20Is. The Indian opener has been a consistent performer against Bangladesh with four half-centuries and a high score of 89. India are without Dinesh Karthik, who was the hero of Nidahas Trophy final when India faced Bangladesh in the tri-nation series.
There will be a toss-up between Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube who are in line to make their T20I debut. Dube has been in fine form of late and has been able to finish games for India A whereas Samson recently scored a record-breaking double century in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019.
Shikhar Dhawan is an automatic choice in Delhi. KL Rahul may get to bat after not getting a game in the previous T20I series against South Africa. Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Delhi Capitals can be India’s No.4 in this match with wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant batting at No.5. All-rounders Washington Sundar and Krunal Pandya will strengthen the lower-middle order along with Dube.
India may give their senior bowlers a chance in the first T20I debut to get off to a winning start. Yuzvendra Chahal may be preferred over Rahul Chahar. Left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed will bring more variety to the attack whereas Deepak Chahar will open the bowling, swinging the ball both ways.
In Iqbal’s absence, Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das will open the batting. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmdullah will remain the mainstay in the middle order. Mohammad Mithun can be the No.3 batsman. Mosaddek Hossain and Afif Hossain can be the lower middle-order batsmen. Afif has proved that he can hit the ball well at the back end of the innings whereas Mosaddek is yet to prove his mettle.
Mustafizur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain become an automatic choice in the bowling lineup. In Shakib’s absence, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam may get a chance. Arafat Sunny returns to the T20I squad and can play his first T20I after three years.
