Indian captain Virat Kohli lost his wicket cheaply on the morning session of the opening day in the ongoing against South Africa. Kohli, who lost his wicket through the lbw, once again failed to achieve success in batting review in Test cricket.

Virat Kohli is one of the most in-form batsmen in the present international cricket. At present, he is the no.1-ranked ODI batsman, no.2-ranked Test batsman and no.10-ranked T20I batsman. He has a very good chance to regain the top-ranked Test batting position if he performs well in the ongoing Ranchi Test. He is currently just one rating point behind from the top-ranked Test batsman Steven Smith.

However, Kohli failed to score good runs in the first innings of the Ranchi Test. After winning the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli had no hesitation to bat first. But the hosts have struggled on the morning session of the opening day of this Test match. Captain Kohli came to bat after opener (10) and (0) lost their wickets very cheaply. Proteas pacer took both those wickets.

Anrich Nortje trapped Virat Kohli for lbw

Struggling on 16/2, Kohli put a 23-run partnership for the third wicket with another opener . After scoring 12 runs off 22 balls (2 fours), Kohli was dismissed by the South African pacer . It was a beautiful full delivery that straight hit on Kohli’s pad and the bowling end umpire Nigel Llong raised his finger in the reply of the visitors’ appeal.

After chatting with Rohit Sharma, Kohli went for the review. The review suggested umpire’s call after less than half of the ball was hitting the leg-stump. Due to the umpire’s call, that decision stayed but India didn’t lose a review. It was the first Test wicket for Anrich Nortje who is playing his second Test.

According to media reports, it was the ninth consecutive time in Test cricket when Virat Kohli failed to save his wicket after taking the batting review. Last time, Kohli achieved success in the batting review in Test cricket during the 2017 Kolkata Test against Sri Lanka in November 2017. In the third innings of that game, a thin inside edge saved Kohli from getting out through an lbw.
