Heavy downpours on cards:
As per the India Meteorological Department, the Pune city will receive intense spells of rainfall spanning 20-30 minutes with some thunderstorm activity over the next 72 hours. Recently, the region has suffered from heavy flooding, as it has been an extended monsoon in that part of India.
Amidst this, a piece of good news is that during October 10th and 12th, the intensity of rainfall is likely to reduce. Since then, the city will continue to witness overcast sky conditions on October 13 and October 14.Virat Kohli (L) and Faf du Plessis. (Credit – BCCI)
Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather, IMD Pune, said, “Strong westerlies from the Arabia sea bringing more moisture leads to heavy downpours over Konkan, Goa and parts of Madhya (central) Maharashtra.”
Considering the amount of rain over the last few weeks, it didn’t come as a surprise that the pitch has got live grass, which replicating the overseas pitch conditions. The groundstaff would work with extensive care, as they received poor ratings when their previous hosted a Test match.
As the first Test, thunderstorms, and rain might be a regular appearance in Pune too. However, with the stadium being a sand-based ground, it would require around half an hour for the match to resume once the rain stops. Especially, owing to the excellent drainage facilities at the MCA stadium.
