Rohit Sharma continued his sensational run as a Test opener with his third century of the series, allowing India (IND) to regain control of the proceedings after a top-order collapse in the third and final game against South Africa (SA) in Ranchi on Saturday (October 19). With India reduced to 39/3, Rohit and Ajinkya Rahane joined hands to stage the home team's remarkable recovery. India were 224/3 before bad light, followed by rain, forced an early end to play on Day 1 with only six overs possible in the final session. India will be looking to notch a big first-innings score like they did in Visakhapatnam (502/7d) and Pune (601/5d). Kagiso Rabada roared in to raise South Africa's spirits after their hammering in Pune last week, the in-form Mayank Agarwal (10) edging the pacer to Dean Elgar at third slip in the fifth over.

Cheteshwar Pujara soon followed without scoring when he was struck on the back pad by a Rabada delivery and given LBW.

Anrich Nortje claimed the scalp of Virat Kohli, who made a Test-best 254* last week.

But Rohit and Rahane played sensibly as the runs flowed in the afternoon session, Rabada twice taken for 13 in an over.

Both batsmen attacked Dane Piedt and Rohit reached three figures for the sixth time in the long format by dispatching the spinner for a maximum over long-off.

Only 58 overs were bowled when stumps were drawn under dark clouds.
