India Women came up with a commendable performance, especially with the ball, as they defended a low total to beat South Africa Women in the opening T20I at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the win also saw India ending their seven-match losing streak in the format, which started in November 2018, following their ICC World T20 semi-final defeat to England.

After winning the toss, South African skipper Sune Luus invited India to bat first, as the latter could manage a paltry total of 130, courtesy skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's 43, while Shabnim Ismail claimed 3/26.

However, in reply, it became a horror show for the visitors as, despite Mignon du Preez's 59, Deepti turned things around with her spin, with India winning by 11 runs.
