Mumbai Indians have started their preparations for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the franchise is set to organise two-day trials where they will test the abilities of domestic cricketers. Mumbai is one of the teams which conducts trials to select players and this year, it will be no different.

While many cricketers are expected to attend the trials, it has been confirmed that Odisha’s spinner Pappu Roy and Jharkhand’s teenage batsman Avneesh Sudha will attend the trials.

Starting from Roy, the left-arm spinner from Odisha confirmed to Orissapost that he has been called up for the trials. He gained national selectors’ attention in the previous season of Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scalped 14 wickets from eight matches.

Based on his performances, Roy was selected to play for India C in the Deodhar Trophy. He played a pivotal role in India C winning the title and was the highest wicket-taker for his side in the final – he scalped three wickets in 10 overs. In total, he scalped six wickets in two matches.

Coming to Avneesh,  the 17year-old comes from the state of Uttarakhand. He played for India U-19 in the youth Test against South Africa U-19 earlier this year.

He recently made his List A debut, in Vijay Hazare Trophy, for the Unmukt Chand-led side and scored 284 runs at an average of 47.33. Avneesh had made his first-class debut in the quarter-final of Ranji Trophy against Vidarbha, where he scored 119 runs. He scored 91 in the first innings.

With IPL auction set to take place on December 19, Mumbai Indians will look to test few more players during the trials before inking on the players which they want at the auction.

While Mi, and other teams, will soon release the list of released players, MI have already traded leg-spinner Mayank Markande to Delhi Capitals in exchange for Sherfane Rutherford. The four-time IPL champions are likely to retain most of the players from the previous season.
