Jasprit Bumrah shows no mercy to teammates as well: KL Rahul
Jasprit Bumrah never dials down on his competitiveness, even when the batsman he's bowling to is an India teammate, KL Rahul has revealed. Since making his debut in 2016, Bumrah has risen to become one of the most feared fast bowlers in the world. He is ranked third among the Test bowlers while he's the number-one ranked ODI bowler.
Rahul says he has known Bumrah since the junior level and that he shows no mercy even for his India teammates. "He's (Bumrah) a phenomenal talent and I had the opportunity and privilege to play with him even before he had the chance to play for his country," Rahul told Red Bull. "We played on the same junior level team and he's always someone that's very determined and dedicated and very passionate about cricket. He's someone you don't want to mess with because he bowls the ball at serious speeds and he's a competitor off the field even when we're playing against each other. There's no mercy, even for the guys who play for the same country he's always very competitive.
Bumrah has 62 wickets from 12 Tests, 103 wickets from 58 ODIs and in T20Is, he has 51 wickets from 42 matches. He is the first Asian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies. Rahul predicts the 25-year-old will only get better. "The things that he's doing for the country right now are absolutely fantastic and I know he's only going to grow and get better," Rahul said.
Rahul also wished to have England allrounder Ben Stokes as his IPL teammate. "He can bowl, he's a phenomenal fielder, he's played out there before and he's had a great impact on the teams he's played for. I hope he can play for my team, it'd be great to have him on my side," he said.
When asked which are the bowlers he has found tough to deal with, Rahul picked out Australian duo of Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon apart from Afghanistan's Rashid Khan. "Pat Cummins who is the No.1 Test bowler right now. I found him very hard to face. Rashid Khan has always got the edge over me - he has my number a little bit. Nathan Lyon from Australia. All these guys and Bumrah of course. Facing him at training and a few games against him, he's a competitor, he doesn't give anything away," he said..
