Ireland’s talisman batsman Kevin O’Brien has equaled the world record for most sixes in the calendar year. The Irish batsman has equaled the record which was set up by New Zealand opening batsman Colin Munro. The Kiwis’ opener had struck 35 maximums in 2018 in the shortest form of the game.

Meanwhile, Ireland linchpin batsman Kevin equaled Munro’s record when he played a blistering knock of 41 runs off just 28 balls against Oman in the ongoing T20 Qualifiers in Abu Dhabi. Thus, the right-hander has smashed 35 sixes in 2019 in the T20I format.

O’Brien is Ireland’s finest batsman.

In fact, Kevin O’Brien has managed to clear the fence on 40 occasions in International cricket in 2019. Only Rohit Sharma (60), Chris Gayle (58) and Eoin Morgan (45) have scored more sixes than the Irish player in 2019. Furthermore, the right-hander is the sole Ireland player who has managed to score an ODI as well as Test century.

Meanwhile, Kevin O’Brien has scored 1488 runs in the shortest format of the game in 84 T20IS. The medium-pacer has also taken 58 wickets. The 36-year old batsman has also amassed 3490 runs in 141 One Day Internationals at an average of 30.88. The right-hander is well known for his whirlwind century knock against England in the 2011 World Cup.

Ireland went on easily win the match by a margin of 35 runs after they had posted 183 in their batting innings. Oman could only manage 148 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

Ireland’s Gareth Delany scored a blistering knock of 89 runs off just 49 balls laced with nine fours and three sixes. Thus, he was awarded the Man of the match in the 16th match of the tournament. Oman’s opener Khawar Ali scored a fine fifty but the rest of the batsman could not deliver the goods.

Kevin O’Brien will have his opportunity to leapfrog Colin Munro’s tally of most sixes in a calendar year when Ireland will take Canada on 23rd October.
