MUMBAI: Mumbai all-rounder Shivam Dube received his maiden India call-up. Kerala's wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson and leggie Yuzvendra Chahal earned comebacks, while Ravindra Jadeja was dropped from India’s T20 team, as the chairman of the national selection committee, MSK Prasad, in what could be his last assignment, announced the Indian teams for the full tour of Bangladesh, here on Thursday.

With Virat Kohli choosing to skip the T20Is against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma will lead the side in the shortest format.

“It is important to have all-rounders in T20s. All of us agreed that he (Dube) fits in very well in the role we have (in the mind) for him. He bats aggressively, his performances in the India ‘A’ series in the West Indies and also against South Africa in the One-Dayers (for India ‘A’) were phenomenal. I am sure he will do well,” Prasad praised while explaining the inclusion of Dube, who made it to the squad as Hardik Pandya is still recovering from his injury.

Dube scored 177 runs in eight games@88.50 (strike rate: 146.28), including a hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy recently. Before that, the 26-year-old was named as the ‘Man of the Series’ after he scored 180 runs @60, besides taking five wickets @33.60 for India ‘A’ in three unofficial Tests against West Indies ‘A’, playing an instrumental role in the visitors winning the series 2-0.

In the One-Day series against South Africa ‘A’ at home, he scored 155 runs in four games@155.00 (strike rate: 144.85).

In a surprising development, Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur made a comeback into the Indian team as Navdeep Saini suffered an injury.

Regarding Samson, who cracked a double hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy recently, Prasad was clear that “he will play at the top” of the order and said Samson had been rewarded for his newfound consistency.

The Test team only had one change. Shahbaz Nadeem, who was cover for Kuldeep Yadav in Ranchi and played the Test, has been left out.

Prasad’s committee had a long meeting with former India skipper, the new BCCI chief, Sourav Ganguly, and also with Kohli and Rohit. “ His thought process was fantastic. We had a healthy discussion,” Prasad said.
