Kohli, selectors should make the decision on Dhoni: Ganguly
17 Sep 2019
Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has opened up once again on MS Dhoni and the speculations on his retirement surrounding him.
Dada, who earlier said Dhoni should decide himself if he can win matches for Team India, has now stated that captain Virat Kohli and the selectors should make the decision on MSD.
Here are the details.
Let them make the decision, says Dada
"I don't know what the selectors think, what Virat [Kohli] thinks. They are the important persons, let them make the decision," Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.
The status of MS Dhoni since the 2019 World Cup
Dhoni was last seen during the ICC World Cup 2019.
Since then, he missed out on the limited-overs series against West Indies away from home.
He rather chose to serve his regiment in Kashmir.
Dhoni was also on a break ahead of the T20Is against South Africa and was hence unavailable for the series.
He hasn't yet taken a decision regarding his retirement.
Last week Dhoni's retirement rumors gained new direction
The speculation has been so rife surrounding MS Dhoni that last week a simple photo shared by Kohli of the duo prompted retirement rumors instantly.
This led to chief selector MSK Prasad quash the rumor.
Dhoni's wife Sakshi also took to Twitter and rubbished the claims.
Finally, Kohli also came out and said he was surprised to see things get blown out of proportion.
I had nothing in my mind: Kohli on his tweet
Earlier, ahead of India's first T20I against South Africa, Kohli was asked what went on his mind while he shared the tweet.
He responded by saying, "I had nothing in my mind. I was sitting at home and I normally put out a photograph and it became a news item."
There should be discussions between MSD and the management
It is highly important that Dhoni should decide what he needs to do next.
If he is keen to play till the ICC World T20 in 2020, then he should be part of the side.
Also, there should be discussions between Dhoni, Kohli and the selectors.
That's where a clear picture will come out in regards to the planning.
