Batting first, on a two-paced pitch, they struggled for timing, Rohit Sharma got out early. KL Rahul looked good but was the first batsman to be done in by the slowness of the pitch. Shreyas Iyer decided to play his shots and the fun lasted for a while, but it was only a cameo and nothing more.

Rishabh Pant struggled to get going while Shikhar Dhawan had dropped anchor before he got out to a dummy by his partner. But few late blows from Washington Sundar and Krunal Pandya helped India register a good total.

The Bangladesh innings initially followed a similar pattern, with Liton Das departing in the first over for 8. But debutant Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar set the platform putting 54 for two in eight overs before Mushfiqur Rahim joined the party.

Sarkar and Mushfiqur then struggled to keep up with the rate, and when the former was dismissed by a Khaleel Ahmed (1/37) slower ball, the visitors needed 35 runs from the last three overs. But the 18th over saw Bangladesh break the shackles before taking 18 runs off the penultimate over to set the tone for the win. Mahmudullah finished the proceedings with a six off debutant Shivam Dube.

Meanwhile, this is the first defeat for India in T20Is in the last three series after the World Cup. The selectors have been trying various options ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. But Manoj Tiwary slammed the selectors for picking an inexperienced squad against Bangladesh.

“Shocking result for us tonight against d bangladesh team. It does happen in d game but there r so many areas to look into nd improve on. Today’s game was an eye opener 4 d people who all thinks experiences can be bought in the market #INDvBAN,” Manoj Tiwary tweeted.
